ChatGPT prompt for a structured interview debrief

This is the prompt we run within an hour of every interview, while impressions are fresh. It scores your raw notes against the scorecard, evidence by evidence, and lists what you failed to probe. Its rule: it gives no hire/no-hire recommendation; that decision is yours.

The prompt to copy

Here are my raw interview notes for {candidate} against this scorecard. Score each outcome/competency: strong evidence / some evidence / no evidence / contradicting evidence — citing my notes. List what we failed to probe. Do NOT give a hire/no-hire recommendation; that's my call. Notes: {paste} Scorecard: {paste}

Replace the candidate’s name, paste your notes as they are and the scorecard from H1, then run it while the interview is fresh.

When to use it

Within an hour of every interview. Done hot for each candidate, this debrief keeps comparisons honest: you judge everyone against the same scorecard, not against the memory of the last interview.

What you get back

  1. Each scorecard outcome scored on four evidence levels.
  2. Every score backed by a quote from your notes.
  3. A list of what you failed to probe.
  4. No recommendation: the decision stays yours.

Real example: from notes to an evidence grid

Input: Tom, at the Brightside agency, pastes his interview notes for a project-lead candidate. Output excerpt:

Expected outcome Evidence level Backing
Deliver on time Some evidence “mentioned hitting deadlines, no numbers”
Take back key accounts No evidence Topic never raised
Follow-up rigor Contradicting evidence “admitted forgetting to chase”

At the bottom, the AI lists: “To reprobe in round two: ability to hold several parallel projects, never tested.” And no “hire” or “pass” line anywhere. That is the prompt doing its job: it arms you, it doesn’t decide.

The full debrief, with the detailed evidence grid and Playbook P7, ships inside the kit.

Frequently asked questions

Does this prompt work with Claude or Gemini?
Yes. It relies on no ChatGPT-specific feature: paste it as-is into Claude or Gemini and the behavior is the same.
Why does the prompt refuse to recommend hiring or not?
Because the decision is yours, and an AI that calls it for you robs you of your own judgment. The prompt structures the evidence; you decide with the evidence in front of you, not in place of it.
What does "contradicting evidence" mean in the scoring?
It is something in your notes that contradicts an expected outcome, not just its absence. The prompt separates "no evidence" (topic never raised) from "contradicting evidence" (a negative signal observed), so you know what to reprobe.
