ChatGPT prompt for prepping objections before a sales call
This is the prompt we run before a pricing or negotiation call, so we do not meet the objections live for the first time. Its core rule: every response is honest and it refuses any manipulative tactic. When an objection has a legitimate part, it says so instead of brushing it aside.
The prompt to copy
We're proposing {offer} at {price} to {prospect context}. List the 6 most likely objections, and for each: what's legitimate about it, a one-paragraph honest response, and one question to ask back. No manipulative tactics.
Replace the fields in curly braces (your offer, your price, the prospect context), then run it. If the price is not set yet, write “[price TBC]” rather than an invented figure.
When to use it
Before any call where price or scope is going to be discussed. Ten minutes of prep saves you fumbling on the objection you should have seen coming. You walk in with your responses already written, and above all with the question to ask back so you keep control of the exchange.
What you get back
- The 6 most likely objections, listed before the meeting.
- For each, its legitimate part named honestly.
- A one-paragraph response, with no dodging and no bad-faith argument.
- A question to ask back, to understand what sits behind the objection.
Real example: priced offer → prepped objections
Input: the Brightside agency, an 8-person shop, is prepping a call with Fernhill Coffee about a range refresh. The offer is scoped, the price is still to be locked with Lena. Tom runs the prompt with “[price TBC]”. An excerpt of the output:
Objection 3: “The local designer will do this for half the price.” What’s legitimate about it: true, a freelancer costs less than an agency, and for a single logo it would probably be the right call. Do not pretend otherwise. Honest response: here the work is four labels that have to hold together on the shelf and stay extensible to your future products. It is that coherent system, not an isolated file, that justifies the gap. If your need is one label, tell us: the agency may not be the right fit. Question to ask back: how many products do you expect to launch over the next two years?
Notice what the AI did not do: it did not run down the competitor, it conceded they were genuinely cheaper, and it quoted no price in place of “[price TBC]”. That is the prompt working, not failing. The human checkpoint, locking the rate and judging which responses sound like you, stays in your hands.
The full worked example (all 6 prepped objections) ships inside the kit, with the proposal prompt that scopes the offer upstream.
Frequently asked questions
- Does this work in Claude or Gemini, or only ChatGPT?
- It works everywhere. No ChatGPT-specific feature is used: paste it into Claude, Gemini or Le Chat and you get the same prep.
- Does the prompt offer tactics to close at any cost?
- No. The rule "no manipulative tactics" is explicit. It gives you honest responses, including when the right response is to concede a fair point rather than counter it.
- Can I use it if the price is not set yet?
- Yes. Put "[price TBC]" in place of the number: the prompt preps the price objection without inventing a figure. You fill it in once your rate is locked.
