ChatGPT prompt for turning an idea into a structured draft

This is the prompt we use to start a piece of content from a bare idea. Its trick: it does not rush to the keyboard. It first offers three argued angles and waits for your choice before writing a single line of the final piece.

The prompt to copy

Topic: {idea}. Audience: {who}. Goal: {teach / build trust / drive signups}. First give me 3 possible angles with a one-line case for each. Wait for my pick before drafting.
*(Then:)* Draft angle {X} as a {post/article} of ~{length}. Our voice: {tone}. Open with the problem, not throat-clearing. One idea per paragraph. End with {CTA}.

The prompt runs in two steps. Fill the first line’s fields and send. Once you have picked an angle, paste the second part with the chosen number.

When to use it

The moment you have a content idea but no outline yet. It is the first link in a publishing chain: with the angle locked, a second prompt runs the edit pass before you publish. The payoff is mostly up front, where it stops you writing a whole piece on a direction you would not have kept.

What you get back

1. Three distinct angles, each with its one-line case.
2. A pause: the AI waits for your choice instead of charging ahead.
3. Once you give the angle, a first draft in your voice, one idea per paragraph.
4. A piece that opens with the problem, not filler.

Real example: fuzzy idea → three angles

Input: Léa, who runs content at Brightside, an 8-person brand agency, wants to write from a recent project. What she gives, as-is:

topic: what we learned rebranding a small-batch coffee roaster
audience: owners of small craft businesses
goal: build trust

Output, the part that matters:

Angle A. “Three brand decisions that moved the needle for Fernhill Coffee”: concrete, results-first. Angle B. “How to rebrand a craft business without losing its soul”: speaks to owners afraid of being flattened. Angle C. “What a coffee roaster taught us about simplicity”: story register, more personal.

Tell me which angle to develop before I draft.

Notice what the AI did not do: it did not write the article. It laid out three directions and stopped, because the prompt tells it to wait. Léa picks angle B in ten seconds, pastes the second part, and gets a first draft that heads the right way on the first try.
